At the initiative of the Transport Research Board (TFB) a working group comprising representatives of TSV (the National Road Safety Office), VTI (the Swedish Road and Traffic Research Institute) and VV (the Swedish National Road Administration) has examined the feasibility and effects of experiments with time-differentiated speed limits. According to the proposal reported here, the speed limit on 110 km/h roads would be reduced to 90 km/h during the winter months from October to March. On half of the roads with a 90km/h speed limit and paved shoulder, the limit would be reduced to 80km/h. On a third of the roads with 90km/h speed limit and no paved shoulder, the limit would be reduced.
