Samenvatting

The primary objective of Work Package (WP) 3 is to assess the implementation of the African Road Safety Action Plan (ARSAP) 2011-2020. The second objective is to define initiatives for different topics designed to foster the implementation of the Action Plan. The initiatives will be based on the outputs of WP4, WP5, WP6 and WP7, and will address technical, administrative and economic concerns. The aim is to prepare project 'keys on hand' for the Dialogue Platform Management Board. The initiatives will address in particular: I) Road safety policies; II) Road safety and traffic management; III) Capacity building and training and other road safety interventions. Actions will be proposed at different levels namely at continent, country, regional, corridor and local. The main research questions in this Deliverable are: 1. What are the challenges for African countries regarding road safety management capacities? 2. What are optimal locations - i.e. countries, corridors and regions - to realise future safe system projects in the field of road safety management? 3. How can possible future safe system projects be prioritised? This Deliverable 3.3 focuses on identifying promising safe system projects for road safety manegement issues. The closely interrelated Deliverable D3.2 focuses on identifying promising safe system projects for policies. In practice road safety management and policy making are closely intertwined. However, is is possible to make a distinction between these two activities. (Author/publisher)
