Samenvatting

Today, there are various programs associated with different government ministries which provide transportation services in response to specific and diverse community needs. The involvement of several ministries can lead to fragmented transportation services at the community level that operate in relative isolation. Little linkage occurs between the programs, limiting the number of opportunities to develop more flexible and locally appropriate services. This paper describes the provincial level review of transportation programs and the shift from independent program silos to an interdependant and inclusionary concept of community transportation. Use of the community transportation framework as a tool to undertake coordination activities in the community is described using some examples. Finally, an ideal scenario for providing transportation in communities is presented. (A)
