Samenvatting

The paper extends the analytical framework for the treatment of complex interaction data sets described in an earlier paper with special reference to the study of home work relationships in the policy making context. The basic principles underlying the approach are the need to examine each variable in the data set as far as possible in isolation, the need to progress from an initial inductive analysis to a deductive analysis in which mathematical models are used to explore the data in greater depth, and the need to develop a research strategy which enables the policy maker to decide at each stage whether he wishes to continue with the research. The principles underlying this approach are illustrated by a detailed analysis of home work relationships in Amersfoort region in the Netherlands. (Author/publisher)
