"Future on the road" is a traffic education project being carried out in schools in the Swedish municipality of Arboga. The project covers six years between the ages 13 to 19. In total, the programme consists of 120 lectures, i.e. 20 lectures per year. This report covers the first three years: classes 7-9 in primary school. The programme has a broad perspective on traffic and includes aspects such as road safety, transport needs, choice of transport modes, pollution and environmental aspects, health, economy, etc. The project has been evaluated through a process analysis of planning and execution, together with an effect evaluation based on data acquired from questionnaires. The results show that the programme has been carried out with great enthusiasm and commitment. Work has been carried out in most of the targets areas defined in the curriculum. The effect evaluation shows that the youngsters in the trial group in Arboga have improved both their behaviour in traffic and their attitudes more than a control group. The effects are not large, but they are systematic and statistically significant. (A).
