Truck transportation is the subject of the first two papers in this volume. The focus of the work reported by Fawaz and Garrison is a system-level approach to new combinations of trucks, highways, and operations that could achieve significant productivity gains. The next three papers address issues involved in the transportation of hazardous materials.
