'Single-vehicle cyclist accidents' refer to accidents only involving cyclists, and no other road users. They can be subdivided into two groups: the 'cyclist-only' accidents (falling, feet between the spokes etcetera.); and the cyclist collisions with objects and animals. Not much is known yet about single-vehicle cyclist accidents as a whole. This report contains an analysis that was carried out of data collected in a postal/mail survey of cyclist victims in order to gain some insight into the number and nature of this accident type. This data is from a combined SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research and Consumer Safety Institute project that was carried out in 1995 (See ITRD 886399).
