Samenvatting

A comparative assessment of the fuel saving benefits of introducing 3 different forms of urban traffic control (UTC); isolated signal control using vehicle actuated signals (VA); conventional fixed time UTC (using TRANSYT); and SCOOT is described. There were significant savings in both fuel and time by introducing SCOOT in areas where there was currently isolated signal control, and lesser benefits where some form of fixed time UTC was in operation.
