Samenvatting

An energy-absorbing bridge rail system that uses the plastic deformation of steel rings as the primary impact energy absorber has been developed through full-scale crash testing. The system design is not only capable of with standing impacts by large vehicles such as buses and trucks, but also does not impart high accelerations to impacting smaller vehicles. A paper presented at the 1975 Annual TRB Meeting provided information on earlier crash tests. See also B 6365.
