Pedal clubs began in 1953 in Australia. Over the years the aims of pedal clubs remained the same: fun and safety, as expressed by some objectives set out in the rules: to provide opportunity for healthy recreation, enjoyment and good fellowship principally through cycling and to encourage safety on the roads by example and education.
