The aim of this research is to develop a functional evaluation method for public transport (public transport has social, substitution and commercial functions), and to apply this method in a case study. For this purpose, six designs have been made for future conurbational public transport networks, each aiming to fulfil one of these functions. The structure of the Greater Amsterdam Area has been used as a basis. For each of the designed networks, an evaluation has been made of its conurbation to the three functions. Conclusions are drawn in the form of three hypotheses.
