The functional classification of roads is a research item that has been dealt with extensively at former Traffic Research Meetings. This paper contributes to this stream of work in that it elaborates ideas of Slop about the empirical estimation of the function of a road on the basis of the characteristics of the trips travelling on that road. This contribution deals with such an estimation for the links of a bicycle road network.
