Samenvatting

This paper describes the Darmstadt Tire Sensor, a system designed to use integrated sensors for measuring tread-element deformation in the contact patch of tires. The sensors are able to qualitatively and quantitatively measure forces acting on the tire, especially local split effects, which form the basis for friction detection. A completely new measuring device was designed to investigate local slip. Utilization of available tire/road friction and local slip events were measured in a specifically equipped test car.
