Samenvatting

This paper describes an engine throttle (or accelerator) controller to simulate the driver's behaviour in dynamic driving pattern simulation for passenger cars. A devised fuzzy control model which is equivalent to an adaptive proportional-integral controller is employed. This model is appended to an automotive dynamic performance simulator to expand the capability for simulating driving patterns. The simulation includes acceleration/deceleration, gear changes, braking and idling phases which characterize typical driving conditions in normal traffic. Parameters of the transient performance such as instantaneous vehicle speed, engine speed, tractive torque and fuel consumption rate, are predicted. Hence, the integrated travelling distance divided by the accumulated fuel consumption can be used to pre-examine if the fuel economy is within the constraint imposed by law. This pre-examination can be done even before producing a prototype vehicle. (A)
