Samenvatting
A summary is presented of research conducted on a fully automatic system called "Carmatic" for individual traffic. A road network is designed in which every traveler can choose a destination-number which pilots the vehicle along the shortest route through the network to the desired destination. The design of the vehicle, its steering mechanism, the lay-out of the stations, the control system, safety measures, vehicle spacing, speed, etc. are described. An example is given in which all the developed principles are put into practice. Finally the efficiency and capacity are discussed.
