Samenvatting

The concept sustainably safe is introduced to create a traffic system that is optimally equipped for people to use safe, efficient and lasting. An approach is needed in which road infrastructure, car technology and behavioural aspects of the traffic participant are interated into a master concept. Various issues do play part here. People want to travel, and to accommodate them the traffic system that is to their disposal should be wished for, should accommodate the needs, should be understandable, should impose the inevitable limits in a natural way, and the policymakers who decide about it should make decisions that always take the safety impacts of human behaviour and its limits into account. account. Also the system should make the wanted behaviour possible, and it should be taken care that users have the proper knowledge and skills. These issues can be taken care of by system design, approach to decisions and decision-making, education, information and behavioural techniques. (A)
