This report presents the results of a case study into problems among companies arising from congestion in commuter traffic on the roads. Both the companies and their employees were interviewed. The objective of the study is an attempt to indentify the costs of damage and avoidance by companies as a result of congestion in commuter traffic. The case study among companies indicates that problems are experienced, but that translating these into concrete damage and avoidance costs is extremely difficult. Furthermore, the problems seem to be less severe in comparison with previous studies. An important factor in this is the period of recession in the Dutch economy at the time this study was performed, which is also closely related to the situation on the labour market. The higher the level of unemployment, the fewer companies and their employees are faced with problems from congestion in commuter traffic. (A)
