Samenvatting
The Dutch Ministry of Transport has investigated traffic safety policy in ten municipalities. The co-operation with the higher authorities, i.e. the government and the provinces was also studied. It is concluded that municipalities have to deal with many other authorities. They consider their dependence on state and province where road construction and highway maintenance is concerned as the biggest problem. For instance the loss of time in dealing with them and the differences in approach to traffic problems. State and province seem too much concerned with a smooth traffic flow. The municipalities are more often concerned with keeping out the bypassing traffic. Problems arise with junctions having both local and interurban significance.
