Samenvatting
Deterrence is defined as the preventive effect which actual or threatened punishment of offenders has upon potential offenders. Some observations about general deterrence and associated problems are made. Results of an experiment are given. These results support the thesis that punishment can act as a deterrent. Only a part of the potential offenders responded positively to the police campaign.
