Since their inception and introduction in the early 1980s, geocomposites have received wide acceptance as edge drains, particularly on interstate highway rehabilitation projects. During that time the industry has learned a great deal about the design requirements of the system to ensure acceptable performance. Through a review of laboratory tests, site investigations, and literature, a guide to systems design with emphasis on controlling factors is offered.
