Samenvatting

This paper was presented at the `Innovative Solutions for Material and Construction Issues' session. In June 1990, Dilon Consulting, in association with M.R. Byrne and Associates Limited, was retained by the Town of Wallaceburg to prepare a Class Environmental Assessment and functional, preliminary and detailed design engineering for the Libby Street - Baseline road crossing of the Sydenhan River. This paper will highlight the impact of difficult geotechnical conditions on the project and describe site specific soil parameters directly influencing material selection and construction procedures and techniques. Finally, the paper will present specific conclusions arising from conventional engineering and construction being altered to accommodate difficult geotechnical and stability requirements in completing an important transportation link that brings economic impetus to Wallaceburg and surrounding areas.
