This publication is a textbook on the theory and the practice of gerontechology. Using insight and experience from many different scientific domains as well as from older people themselves, the way is paved towards providing longer healthy and independent lives for humans in the dynamic society, enriched by its information and communication networks. This publication has been structured for fulfilling the needs of GENIE, the Gerontechology Education Network in Europe. GENIE is a project funded by the European Union and concerns the co-operation between 40 universities from 17 European countries. For increased educational effectiveness, boxes have been added describing relevant projects in Europe, Japan, and the USA and Canada.
