Methodology and results of a test in the course of which the behaviour at speed of drivers on motorways was investigated, are presented. Most important results were (1) the average journey speed was 117 to 120 km/h on a stretch with recommended speed regulations and 119 or 118 km/h on a stretch having a maximum speed restriction; (2) the relationship between speed and car model; (3) the approximate agreements between measured speed data and those quoted by drivers; and (4) female drivers observe maximum speed restrictions better than men.
