Samenvatting
When rebuilding cantonal roads in town centres worthy of preservation, the requirements of road construction increasingly clash with the need to preserve town character. Today it is clear that in an historically- conscious town centres the road and its environments must be considered and treated in sympathy with its local space. Although the results presented here are based on investigations carried out in one particular Swiss canton, they have a general validity.
