Samenvatting

An effective road safety audit process has great potential for improving road safety. This can only be gained if the framework to support the road safety audit process works well. The Roads and Traffic Authority of New South Wales (RTA) undertook an evaluation of its road safety audit framework to establish where areas could be fruitfully targeted for improvements. Five key elements of the road safety audit framework were identified that must work together effectively. The five key elements are: guidance, training, performance measures, information systems and communications. This paper examines these elements and suggests how local government might address them in improving road safety audit outcomes of roads under their management.
