GETTING STARTED - SELECTING AND USING COMPUTERIZED TRAFFIC MODELS

Auteur(s)
MORALES, JM
Samenvatting

The various aspects of traffic modeling are discussed, and considerations involved in the use of computer models to simulate and optimize traffic flow are described. Some currently available models are also described. Important considerations in selecting traffic models are pointed out. The respective uses of simulation and optimization models are noted. Application and level of detail, ducumentation and user support, data requirements, data coding, and credibility and utility of reults are discussed. The most widsely used programs for signal timing optimization are listed. Software that allows the engineer to evaluate proposed operational improvements before implementation are also listed and discussed.
