Samenvatting

Recent studies on Advanced Traveler Information systems do not explicitly consider activity scheduling as an integrated part of travel decision making. A spatial decision support system called GISICAS was conceptualized and constructed in this paper to assist traveler's pre-trip and enroute decision making the presence of real time information. Based on people's preference in destination and route choice, the system is capable of performing a variety of spatial search heuristics for choosing destinations and route. It provides conflict resolution strategies including re-scheduling, re-routing, destination substitution and activity compression in times and congestion. This system is written in the highly portable standard PC programming language and is interfaced with ARC/INFO GIS through a UNIX process. The system is fully functional in a PC and a Workstation IBM 6000 environment.
