Freight Transport Monitor. From 2002 on, the Ministry of Transport prepares an estimate in accordance with the so-called VBTB/BNS system. Due to the introduction of the new system there is a need to understand trends of several indicators. To support the needs, the Directorate-General for Freight Transport has developed the Freight Transport Monitor. This monitor gives an overview of past developments and provides forecasts for the mid-long term (7 years). This paper describes policy monitoring in general and the Freight Transport Monitor in particular. The paper pays attention to the position of the Freight Transport Monitor, the developments of some indicators and the method to make 7-year forecasts. (Author/publisher)
