Samenvatting

The Great Belt strait and the Cattegat Sea divide Denmark into two halves, east and west Denmark. A ferry service is operated by the Danish State Railroads (DSB). The construction of a fixed link across the Great Belt started in 1988. A double track railway crossing is due to open in 1993 and a 4 lane motorway should be in operation by 1996. The decision to construct the fixed link was taken by the Danish Parliament in 1987. A model has been established to assess future volumes of road and rail traffic across the fixed link, and is described.
