GSM as the source for traffic information. LogicaCMG has introduced an innovative services package for traffic information users, called Mobile Traffic Services or MTS, based on using the GSM infrastructure. MTS provides traffic information about the entire road network at an urban, regional and national level. Smart capturing and processing of the movements of millions of mobile phones creates this traffic information. MTS in the Netherlands is made operational in collaboration with Vodafone and Applied Generics, LogicaCMG’s Scottish partner. The province of Noord-Brabant, a regional road authority in the Netherlands, was the first user in the Netherlands for this Mobile Traffic Service (MTS). A validation study was performed bij Goudappel Coffeng to test the quality and availability of the information. (Author/publisher)
