Samenvatting

A basic study has been carried out for the purpose of making it possible for the visually impaired to make their way around freely in the same way as people with normal vision, by trial installation of a voice guidance system for support of pedestrian activity by the visually impaired. The results of the test have shown that the system itself can be highly evaluated but also, as regards the hardware aspect, that it would still appear to be necessary to make further improvements regarding individual parts of the system. As for the software aspect, there were no particular problems regarding the text of voice announcements, the quality of the sound, the speed of the announcements, the number of places at which the announcements were made, etc.
