The IRIS project aims to develop a personalised public transport passenger information service. The objective of the study is to explore the transportational, organisational, financial and technical feasibility of such a personalised information service. The feasibility study is performed by a consortium consisting of six partners. The emphasis is on the integration of technological components that are already available, like wireless communication or positioning systems. Starting point of the development of the IRIS service is the existing `OVR' information service (`Public Transport Travel Information'). The scope of the system is expanded in several stages: personalisation of the service, mobilisation of the service (both en route information and positioning of the passenger), and dynamisation of the service (real time information based on the position of public transport vehicles). It is concluded that a personalised, dynamic, mobile public transport passenger information service is feasible and recommendable, if certain boundary conditions are met. Currently, a follow-up of the IRIS project is being elaborated.
