The Hamilton traffic "blitz". Paper presented at the 1974 Conference of the New Zealand Institute of Engineers, Wellington, February 18-21, 1974.

Methods used and results achieved in a month long intensified enforcement and publicity program conducted in a New Zealand city are described. During this period anti-accident patrols were effectively trebled and the campaign received extensive news coverage both locally and nationally. Injury accidents in the period were 33 1/3% fever, and there was a substantial reduction in accident severity. There was a noticeable improvement in driver behaviour during the period but a reversion to previous habits soon after.
