The state of the art concerning tolerance for injury to the central nervous system when the head is not directly struck is discussed. Progress in this area of the biokinetics of impact has been hampered by the difficulty of sustained collaborative work in the three fields which must be coordinated in order to achieve adequate reliability of data.
