From 2015 new cars and light vehicles must be fitted with an eCall-system. This safety device will automatically contact emergency services and digitally transmit information on accident location and driving direction of the vehicle. The Department of Traffic and Navigation (DVS) of the National Road Administration (Rijkswaterstaat) is involved in implementing eCall in the Netherlands and is investigating the expected impact.
