Since August 1983 the city of Amsterdam uses wheel locks as an experiment to enforce payment and parking regulation at parking meters. The results are very encouraging. Application of wheel locks had been made possible by a provisional adaptation of the local parking bye-law; a permanent legal construction is worked at.
