Since the early seventies several techniques have been developed for the estimation of O-D matrices using all kinds of data. In this paper a survey will be given of four different O-D matrix estimation techniques. It will be shown that some techniques can only be applied on certain restricted conditions and, even worse, may lead to considerable loss of information.
