The road network that cuts through the country is laid out, taking physical, environmental, population and developmental characteristics of Argentina into account. The issue of its maintenance has been raised considering that the National Road Network is a starting point of this analysis. Because Argentina is a federalist country, the national road network finds itself under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government. Because of a lack of maintenance until 1990, this road network has deteriorated considerably. In order to reverse this situation, significant financing and immediate work were required. Hence the vital need for an agreement between the country and private activity. Five years after the change in the maintenance approach, todays outlook allows us to affirm that by the end of the century, Argentinas national roads will be in good condition and the users will be able to travel on them comfortably, safely and economically. The policy applied has enabled a significant reactivation of the private road activity, and the State, by way of financing, with funding from the National Treasury, financing provided by the users through tolls and those of foreign loans, has enabled the achievement of its basic responsibility for the maintenance of more and better roads.
