Highway Safety Analysis Software (HSA Software) is a program for conducting road accident studies. It serves for organising traffic accident data in order to reveal existing accident patterns and develop safety improvements. HSA Software includes accident data entry, editing, and filtering, preparing accident data listing and summaries with proportional distribution of different accident categories, calculating accident rates for segments or intersections, estimating safety benefits, and producing collision diagrams. Collision Diagrams are generated using accident data filtered for the particular intersection or roadway segment. After the diagram is displayed, it may be edited to better reflect the existing conditions and accident locations. Accident symbols may be moved to more precise locations, and/or copied to display the same accident type with the same vehicle directions of travel at different locations within one diagram. Various accident categories, such as fatal, injury, wet road, or night-time accidents may be highlighted on the diagram. Collision Diagrams can be prepared for 4-legged intersections, "T"-intersections, segments, or for custom geometry layout using an image file as a background. Accident data may be entered manually using Accident Data Entry Form, or transferred. A supplemental product for the HSA Software, called the HSA Data Transfer procedure, converts accident data files from their original formats into HSA Software format. HSA Data Transfer has been developed for the states of Arizona and Connecticut, USA. HSA Software expedites accident investigation process, and helps developing road safety enhancements in order to reduce number of accidents and improve traffic operations. (Author/publisher)
