The Highways Agency Traffic Information System (HATRIS) stores journey times for every 15 minutes for each link of the motorways and "A" roads in England that the Agency is responsible for maintaining and managing. The data is currently sourced from the Agency's system of inductive loops (MIDAS), Automatic Number-Plate Recognition (ANPR) data from the HA National Traffic Control Centre and Trafficmaster , and ITIS floating vehicle data (FVD). This paper discusses work to date on the data fusion strategy for HATRIS. This has evolved as more sources became available and is based on an analysis of the characteristics of the data.
