This report provides an overview of knowledge from earlier SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research research work into the cyclists'and moped riders' safety on different junction types within built-up areas. It is concluded that relatively little is known, especially as far as the influence of the number of both cyclists and of moped riders on road safety is concerned. In addition, little is known about the accurate influence of the bicycle provisions' layout on road safety. Special attention should be given to junctions with both low traffic intensities and with traffic signals. The road hazard appears to be high at these junctions. Some types of layout and of traffic regulation also need special attention. An example is outwards-bending bicycle paths on junctions outside built-up areas.
