Samenvatting

“Home Zone” is the UK term for a street where people and vehicles share the whole of the road space safely, and on equal terms; and where quality of life takes precedence over ease of traffic movement. These Design Guidelines have been written to provide practical advice on good practice to designers and others involved in planning, designing or approving Home Zone schemes in the UK. They are applicable to Home Zones in new developments and to Home Zones created in existing conventional streets — often referred to as “retrofit” schemes. The guidelines include advice on highway design standards, as well as ways of enriching the quality of the place, which can be adapted by authorities to suit local circumstances. (Author/publisher)
