The objective of this study is to gather additional background data on the respondents for a Stated Preference study to be conducted. The municipality of Breda provided a database of persons who recently moved to Breda. These persons received a written questionnaire. In total, 2,578 questionnaires were mailed, of which 910 were returned (a response of 35%). The average respondent is a male between 24 and 44 years old with a college or university education. This respondent is married or cohabiting with his partner and has no children. He is primarily active in the business sector. Car ownership and being in possession of a driving licence among respondents is very high (85% and 94%). More than 60% of the respondents use 60% of the respondents use the car for the journey to their work, an average distance of 32 km. Approximately 20% of the respondents walk or cycle to their work. 16% of the respondents use public transport. A relatively small group of respondents carpool to their work. Most of the respondents live on the periphery of the city (70%). A quarter is housed in the Breda city centre. A further analysis showed that 35% of respondents live in a terraced house, 30% in a flat and 17% in a semi-detached house. See also C 1653 and C 7435.
