Samenvatting

Two surveys focused on the use of child protection devices in 1991 and 1992 whereas their wearing became compulsory on January 1st, 1992. They consisted of collecting the detailed seating conditions and a questionnaire administered to the occupants of cars stopping at gas stations on main roads. The analysis of two samples comprising more than 500 children each give insight into: the impact of the mandatory wearing on the frequency of use; the types of protection devices depending on children's age and quality of wearing; and the appraisal of comfort and convenience.
