Samenvatting

How does the choice traveller choose ? : possible determinants of mode choice behaviour among choice travellers. The expectations around the choice traveller are currently high considering possibilities of growth in public transport. However, an unambiguous definition of the choice traveller is non-existing. The general idea about the choice traveller is of a high educated person in a large town who chooses public transport when going shopping or going to work or school. The choice traveller seems to make negative choices when choosing a mode of transport: on the basis of possible congestion, delays and parking problems. Results on the importance of travel information concerning mode choice are not unequivocal. Considering integrated car/PT travel information great importance is attached to time components. To examine how travel information can be of importance for the choice traveller, future research should be aimed at a thorough typification of the choice traveller and a correct translation of prominent mode choice attributes to travel information components.
