Samenvatting

A range of initiatives are currently underway or already implemented in Queensland, to demonstrate the benefits of cooperation between all agencies involved in the ownership, provision and management of the road network. The role of ITS is viewed as an opportunity to aid in achieving integration and change of organisational business processes, greater sharing of resources, improved and cost effective provision of real time information, positive changes to driver behaviour, and enhanced management of incidents and enforcement. This paper demonstrates, through case studies, that institutional aspects are considered just as crucial as technical aspects in achieving a high degree of synergy across multiple agencies when realising both individual modal, and overall road network management outcomes. Lessons learnt from these case studies are providing guidance to the drafting of a Joint Main Roads and Queensland Transport ITS strategy.
