Samenvatting

Safety belts are less efficient in real accidents than in experimental conditions because of some defects concerning cars, way of wearing belt or belt technology or geometry. By analyzing 420 accident cases in each of which at least one occupant was injured, the authors evaluate the difference between theoretical and observed performance, they list factors having caused the observed injuries and the suggest counter measures.
