Many human factors issues must be answered to support the design of IVHS-class Traffic Management Centers (TMC). This paper describes the TMC simulator at Georgia Institute of Technology which is being used to address many of these issues. The simulator features a real-time, interactive traffic model, simulation of remote camera systems, a big-board display, a simulated communications network, and four reconfigurable operator workstations. Initial simulator experiments focus on human performance and the design of specific controls and displays. Later experiments will examine such issues as training, support system configurations, and adaptive automation in the TMC. (A)
