Samenvatting

Research in the Traffic Management Center Simulator at Georgia Tech has produced new, empirically-based human factors guidelines for Traffic Management Center design. A series of experiments was conducted, each addressing human factors issues raised by designers of Traffic Management Centers. Guidelines based on results and lessons learned during the conduct of these experiments have been developed for a number of design issues, including selection of control devices for remote cameras, incident detection support systems, incident reporting, management of Variable Message Signs (VMS), and operator interaction with geographic information system (GIS) map displays.
