Samenvatting

TRB’s Transportation Research Record (TRR): Journal of the Transportation Research Board, No. 2434 consists of 17 papers that evaluate compensatory behaviors of drivers when conversing on a cell phone; use of naturalistic driving data to characterize driver behavior in freeway shockwaves; effects of different distractions on driving performance for drivers using a touch screen; questionnaire results about drivers’ susceptibility to distractions; traffic-calming measures affecting perceived speed in approaching bends; and the process of combining driving performance information into an index score. This issue also evaluates drivers’ speed behavior on rural motorways based on an instrumented vehicle study; cell phone resting locations; factors affecting drivers’ cell phone use behavior; traveler information and demand management for weather-related events; truncated arrow per lane guide signs; and use of mobile mapping data for behavioral testing of drivers. Additionally, this TRR summarizes use of drivers’ jerk profiles in computer vision-based traffic safety evaluations; pedestrian flow at signalized crosswalks; driver behavior for trajectory prediction and driving risk detection; limitations associated with observing driver distraction; and bicycles in urban areas.
